diana degarmo's engagement ring

diana degarmo's engagement ring-What a gem! For his surprise proposal on American Idol Wednesday night, Ace Young selected an 18-karat yellow gold, platinum and diamond engagement ring to present to longtime girlfriend Diana DeGarmo.

The David Webb sparkler, which features a 1-carat fancy yellow center stone, also boasts two side diamonds weighing .2 carats.
Young helped to design the ring, after hearing DeGarmo drop a hint. “A month ago, she said, ‘Gold needs to come back,’” Young told PEOPLE after Wednesday’s finale. “I was like, ‘I agree,’ so mental note. Her favorite thing is a sunflower and she loves yellow, so one of our dear friends [helped me] put together a ring that has a yellow diamond, a gold band and two smaller diamonds on the side that are clear, so it’s like a sunflower.”

The couple, who’ve been together for two years, met in the spring of 2010 when both signed on to costar in the Broadway revival of the musical Hair. DeGarmo appeared on Idol season three, while Young was on season five.
After being on the receiving end of an “aww”-some proposal on the season finale of ‘American Idol‘ last night, details on Diana DeGarmo’s engagement ring have been revealed.

Ace Young presented the sparkler to his girlfriend on the ‘AI’ stage, which was befitting since that’s where both stars got their start. According to Us Weekly, the David Webb ring was co-designed by Young and features a 1-carat yellow stone with two side diamonds weighing .2 carats. It is set in 18-karat yellow gold and platinum.

“A month ago, she said, ‘Gold needs to come back’,” the 31-year-old singer tells PEOPLE.

On Wednesday’s season finale of ‘American Idol,’ Young took the plunge and romantically proposed on camera. “I love you to death. You’re my best friend,” he said. “I want to make this last forever and I will do anything in my power to have the most … amazing life together if you will have me. Diana Nicole DeGarmo, will you marry me?” Her answer was a tear-filled yes.
Ace Young pulled some major strings to ensure his televised marriage proposal to girlfriend Diana DeGarmo

went off without a hitch during Wednesday’s “American Idol” season finale.

The former “Idol” alum said he couldn’t have pulled off the surprise without help from the network that launched his singing career.

“I called (producer) Nigel (Lythgoe) directly last week and said, ‘I want to do this. I’m going to do this. Is there any way I could do it at the show?’ ” Young, 31, told People. “He said ‘Yes, I’m not going to tell anybody until the day of ... (and) I want you to figure it out with Ryan (Seacrest).’ ”

DeGarmo, who was runner-up during the third season of “Idol,” said she was “completely caught off guard” by Young’s surprise move after the two were summoned to the “Idol” stage during the show.

“I actually almost got up to go to the bathroom to fix my hair," DeGarmo, 24, said, "And then I just started shaking (on stage)."

Young, who placed seventh during the fifth “Idol” season, then professed his love for DeGarmo, whom he began dating after the two worked on the 2010 revival of Broadway’s “Hair” together.

"We have conquered Broadway together. We have created our new music together. We have an amazing group of people around us. And with the help of David Webb jewelry I have a way to make this last forever. Are you ready?" Young said, before dropping down to one knee.

"I love you to death. You're my best friend. I want to make this last forever and I will do anything in my power to have the most amazing life together if you will have me. Diana Nicole DeGarmo, will you marry me?"

A teary eyed DeGarmo immediately accepted the proposal as Young presented his bride-to-be with a David Webb 18kt yellow gold and platinum engagement ring, which features a yellow diamond center stone (weighing approximately one carat) flanked by two smaller diamonds.

According to Young, much thought was put into the jewelry’s design concept.

“A month ago, she said, ‘Gold needs to come back,’” he told People. “I was like, I agree, so mental note. Her favorite thing is a sunflower and she loves yellow, so one of our dear friends (helped me) put together a ring that has a yellow diamond, a gold band and two smaller diamonds on the side that are clear, so it’s like a sunflower.”

Luckily for Young, DeGarmo fully approved of her new sparkler.

After examining her ring on stage, she said, “Wow, babe, you picked a good one!”
